New Italy Filming Update: Orvieto and Ghost Towns

May 4th -Exploring Orvieto

I started the day by filming a walk around the base perimeter of Orvieto which will actually be placed at the end of the walking tour video. In Orvieto, I was able to film Saint Patrick’s Well, the Pozzo della Cava, the Torre del Moro, and the Orvieto Underground as well as a full city tour. Click the link below to see a map of the walk.

May 5th Ghost Towns and Roman Ruins

I left my B&B in Orvieto and started driving to Perugia. On the way, I decided to stop by a ghost town called, "Il borgo fantasma di Celleno." I loved it! It is similar, and close by, to Civita di Bagnoregio. While Civita di Bagnoregio is known as the Dying City, Celleno really is a dead city. Most of the town has collapsed into the ravine below. However, they have the remaining structures set up as a free museum! There are exhibits of tools, houses, shops, kitchens, wine cellars, etc. There are even a couple guys there who run the museum that are just waiting for visitors! Check it out on Google Maps by clicking on the link below. I filmed a tour but did not get too many pictures. It started raining right when I finished filming. I plan to go back and fly my drone there before I leave.

Afterwards, I drove to Carsulae, an ancient Roman town in the Umbrian countryside filled with ruins including an amphitheater, theater and mausoleum. I filmed tour around the site. It was very quiet. I left Carsulae at around 4pm and arrived in Perugia at 5pm.

I am still working on how to best format this newsletter, so don't be surprised if the next one looks completely different. :) Ciao! Ciao! -Isaac

Perugia Car Show

I’m writing this from the airport lounge in Rome, waiting for my flight home. The trip is now finished, and the last three days were some of the busiest of the whole trip. I filmed in Assisi, Perugia and Rome, with a mix of festival crowds, classic cars, rain, bike rides, ancient roads and one unfortunate lens problem on my final evening walk. May 9th — A Frustrating Day in Assisi, Then a Car Show in Perugia Drove back to Assisi to film the main walk, starting at 12:25 near the Basilica. It...

May 6th - A Lucky Break in Assisi (and Discovering Spello) Today, I drove from Perugia to Assisi to film inside the Papal Basilica of Saint Francis. I started at 9:30 and had the place almost to myself for nearly an hour. The town itself was cloudy and crews were setting up for a festival, so I decided to come back on Saturday when the light is better and the festival is in full swing. So instead, I drove to Spello, somewhere I'd never filmed before. I started filming without planning the...

Hi everyone, Thanks for signing up for my newsletter! I really appreciate it. I’m currently in Italy filming new walking tours, and I wanted to share a quick update from the first few days of the trip. I arrived in Rome and started filming right away with a tour inside the Pantheon. Over the next two days, I covered a huge portion of the city—filming around the Colosseum, inside the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the Altar of the Fatherland, Piazza del Campidoglio, and more. One of the...
